The best parts of the climate bill were won because of our movements
Our movements have been fighting for climate action that matches the scale of the crisis for many years.
The Inflation Reduction Act, that passed a few weeks ago, is a huge win and will give us a shot at stabilizing the planet.
First, let's take a moment to celebrate the win and how we got here. Take a deep breath to soak it in because celebrating what we can while doing this hard work is so important.
Now, let's use that energy to keep going!
This bill will provide critical investment for climate action, but deals were cut to get it passed which also help corporate polluters and profiteers. We'll need to keep fighting to stop new fossil fuel developments and false climate solutions like the carbon capture pipelines proposed in Iowa.

Here's the backstory: We got here because we made a plan to take on the climate crisis by creating millions of good jobs in a new economy that prioritizes care for each other, the planet, and a just transition to clean energy.
That started with developing the Green New Deal and demanding that people running for office support it. The work of tens of thousands of climate activists, like you, across the country made climate justice a top issue in the 2020 Presidential campaign and forced Biden to make it a major pillar of the Build Back Better Agenda.
After we defeated Trump, we pushed Biden to make his agenda for climate action even bolder. In 2021, CCI members took to the streets and marched to every congressmember's office in Iowa to demand they pass a major bill for climate justice called the THRIVE Act.
As our proposals were cut to get the key vote needed from Senator Joe Manchin to pass a bill, CCI members joined a week of protests in DC to keep the pressure on. Hundreds of us took arrests outside the White House for refusing to leave until a bill was passed.
Then, when it seemed there was no hope, a deal was struck and the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law. Securing $369 billion for climate action that will drastically expand clean energy, lower bills, and make our homes more resilient.
As the great abolitionist Fredrick Douglass said, "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
We got here because people like you and me - people who care about our people and our planet. It's up to us to keep the pressure on.
Let's keep fighting and make this just the beginning of a decade of Green New Deal wins. Join as a member or make an extra gift today to be a part of building an Iowa where everyone can thrive.
