Safe, Dignified, and Affordable Housing

Iowa CCI members organize and build power for a more just and equitable housing system across the state. The current system of housing doesn’t work. Corporations and the wealthy few have dictated what our housing needs are for decades.

Housing investment groups are buying up what housing we have left and right, sometimes with government funding. They come in and buy up buildings and mobile home parks, they hike the rent, and discontinue maintenance. We’re pushing back by organizing apartment buildings and mobile home parks.

Iowa CCI members are fighting for:

  • Local organizing campaigns that support development of low-income rental housing, establishment of renter protections as well as financial support, and locally based housing initiatives that preserve long term affordability.

  • Pushing back against unresponsive landlords: We organize tenants to call on their landlords for what’s right! Mobile homeowner or renter, we’re out knocking doors, teaching folks how to build tenant unions, and plot the way they plan to get issues resolved.

  • Stronger protections for renters and mobile homeowners that protect both from retaliatory or unresponsive landlords, unreasonable rent hikes, and unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions.

How can you help?
