Bakken Fight Back in Story County
The Story County Board of Supervisors voted on April 5, 2016 to approve their conditions for the Bakken Pipeline to cross Story County drainage districts, despite strong opposition from CCI members. The Board claimed they were doing this to protect Story County’s water, but they completely failed to see the bigger picture – the only way to truly protect our water is to not allow the pipeline at all.The Board claims they don’t have the authority to stop the pipeline, but we know they have a mandate to protect their county. The Board is just passing the buck, not taking responsibility for their actions. Their refusal to stand up to Big Oil puts us at risk! This is exactly why CCI members are working hard to change business as usual politics. CCI members showed up in force to voice opposition to the pipeline and demand that the Board do more to protect Story County.“What are you doing to stop this pipeline?” asked CCI member and Story County resident Brenda Brink. "For all the money we pay them, it sure seems like they are just rubber-stamping, instead of trying to figure out how to protect their citizens from this pipeline and the spills it will produce," added Brink in regards to the Board of Supervisors refusing to take meaningful action on the Bakken Pipeline. This is about more than one county board, this is about politicians who refuse to take responsibility for their actions. This is about business as usual politics that only serves the interests of big corporations. This is about reclaiming our democracy and making sure that government works for all people. We are going to keep fighting the Bakken Pipeline by holding officials at all levels of government accountable to the people. Will you join us? Take Action! We can beat the Bakken Pipeline, but we need everyday people to get involved.
