Worth County residents fought and won!

After all the hard work that Worth County Residents and Iowa CCI members put in, SUMMIT WITHDREW THEIR FACTORY FARM PERMIT APPLICATION!

Summit would not have backed down without our hard work and dedication!

Thank you for showing up and speaking out at the Public Hearing and County Supervisor Meetings. For all your calls, emails, and texts to the county, Summit, Sphinx Inc, and the DNR!

We have sent, and will continue to send, a massage that factory farms are not welcome in Worth County.

We've built a great momentum and won't stop here!

We know that Jeff Brakke, owner of Sphinx Inc, still owns nearly 40 parcels of land in Worth County, another 40 parcels in Cerro Gordo, and more in other counites like Floyd and Winnebago.

It is likely that Brakke and Summit will try to push for another factory farm in these areas, and it's our job to continue to apply pressure.

Join us on Thursday, October 20th, from 6:30 - 7:30 at the Kensett townhall for a public meeting where we can celebrate this win and prepare for more work ahead!

We will:

  • Learn about the issues paired with factory farms- water and air pollution, economic impact, hurting local businesses, and more.

  • Learn about the dangers of these CAFOs popping up all over Worth and surrounding counties and identify potential target zones.

  • Learn about the tools that we have to fight factory farms before and after they build.

  • and hold a community discussion where people can share their stories and ask questions.

We will have a map showing the nearly 40 parcels of land that Jeff Brakke owns, that are now hot targets for future factory farms. Join us and see how close you are to these areas and recognize the power that we have when we all stand together to support and fight for one another.

Worth County residents and I look forward to building power with you to protect the things, places, and ones that we love!
