Dan Higginbottom to Dakota Access: This isn’t about money

Polk County landowner Dan Higginbottom – with the support of over 30 #NoBakken Pipeline Fighters – had his time before a Polk County Condemnation Commission this morning. While Dakota Access continued to peddle their talking points on how they will try and repair the soil, prevent spills, and attempt to meet landowners’ concerns, it was Dan’s testimony that inspired pipeline fighters today to double down on our #SummerofResistance. When the commission questioned Dakota Access about returning the topsoil, Dan made it clear:“You only get one chance to put the soil back right. If you don’t get it right the first time, the soil is ruined and you’ll never repair it.” And when given his opportunity to explain why his family hasn’t given voluntary permission for the Texas based oil company to bury the 30 inch pipe on his land he was resolute:

“This isn’t about money. We are resisting the illegal taking of our land. We don’t believe the Iowa Utilities Board had the authority to grant this permit or eminent domain authority.” –Dan Higginbottom
