CO2 Pipelines: Legislative update
Have you heard the news? House File 368 passed out of the House Judiciary Committee this afternoon!
This is a major step forward for people and the planet and a major rebuke of greenwashing corporations like Bruce Rastetter's Summit Carbon Solutions.
HF 368 doesn't outright ban the use of eminent domain by the proposed CO2 pipelines. But it sure does a heck of a lot, such as requiring:
90% voluntary easements on land proposed for the pipelines,
Federal regulations to be issued before construction can begin,
Increased compensation for damages to landowners, and,
Pipeline developers to follow county ordinances
HF 368 wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for folks like you across the state demanding action from our lawmakers. But we're not over the finish line yet.
Today's action means HF 368 will survive the first legislative funnel this Friday, March 3. But the second funnel is March 31, when the bill must pass the full House and a Senate committee.
We're ready to keep throwing down to protect the people and places we love. Will you help?
Take a minute to email your Representative urging them to support HF 368 and to work with their colleagues to bring it to the House floor for debate
Help us make calls to mobilize other CCI members and supporters around HF 368! Join us for a phone bank from 5:30 - 7 PM on Tuesday March 7, March 14 or March 21.
Elected officials represent all their constituents, no exceptions. And countless Iowans from all walks of life want our legislative leaders to take a stand against the pipeline profiteers and for people and the planet.
Thanks for taking action and keeping momentum going for HF 368. Let's keep at it.
