MidAmerican Energy is Holding Iowa Back

Iowa could be the first state to achieve 24/7 carbon-free electricity, but MidAmerican Energy is doubling down on running their coal plants until 2049. These coal plants make MidAmerican the single biggest carbon polluter in the state, and worst yet, they aren't needed to keep our lights on.

An IEC report of MidAmerican’s energy production in 2020 found that nearly a third was sold to out-of-state utilities AND that all of the power from coal-burning was in excess of Iowa customer needs. So while our neighbors die prematurely from air pollution or worry about the next super storms fueled by the climate crisis, MidAmerican is making record profits!

The truth is, MidAmerican is lying to us. They're burning coal for greed, not for need. And they'd like to continue business as usual.
