Save Lake Ponderosa Campaign Heating Up

Prestage Farms - a North Carolina-based agribusiness corporation - wants to build a 2,496-head factory hog farm near Lake Ponderosa outside of Montezuma in Poweshiek County.

On Thursday, October 4, 2012, nearly 100 people packed a public hearing in Montezuma, Iowa – Poweshiek County – to stand up for clean air and water and speak out to “Save Lake Pondersa From Factory Farm Pollution”.

The county supervisors meeting room was overflowing with so many everyday people from all walks of life that they had to move the public hearing to the county courtroom in order to accommodate the crowd.  Once there, area residents demanded the county take action to stop Prestage from building more corporate factory farms in Poweshiek County.

The county supervisors pledged to consider a formal resolution opposing the site at their next meeting.

Iowa CCI members will continue to send on the ground updates about the “Save Lake Ponderosa from Factory Farm Pollution” campaign as it unfolds.
