Keystone XL Pledge of Resistance Training July 27-28 in Des Moines
A San Francisco-based “environmental group with teeth” called the Rainforest Action Network will lead a two-day Keystone XL oil pipeline resistance training in Des Moines this weekend, from 9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday at the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI) statewide headquarters, 2001 Forest Avenue.
The Keystone XL Pledge of Resistance – Action Leader Training is being held in 16 cities across the U.S. this month.According to the Rainforest Action Network website:
“The Pledge of Resistance is a commitment made by more than 60,000 people to engage in civil disobedience and risk arrest if President Obama’s administration issues a draft approval of Keystone XL. It is a huge and complex undertaking but we believe preparing for mass civil disobedience is a necessary first step in our movement.”
NASA scientist James Hansen published an op-ed in the New York Times on May 9, 2012, writing that approval of the Keystone Oil Pipeline would mean "Game Over For the Climate".
