BREAKING: IUB Bakken pipeline decision
After deliberating behind closed doors, the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) approved a permit for Energy Transfer Partners - a fortune 500 company from Texas – to build a toxic oil pipeline through 18 Iowa counties and numerous watersheds, streams and rivers. Their decision flies in the face of strong opposition from thousands of Iowans like you.The IUB’s decision is not unexpected. But it’s infuriating. It’s another example of Gov. Branstad and state leaders bending over backwards for corporate profits, instead of everyday people. That’s why we say the #NoBakken fight is far from over! There are several BIG opportunities to delay and STOP this bad idea.
There will be lawsuits and two more permitting battles - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) still has to issue a permit because the pipeline would cut through sovereign lands. The Army Corps of Engineers still has to issue a permit because it would cut through watersheds of the US.
There will be hundreds of fights from landowners who refuse to sign eminent domain agreements.
This is about our water. This is about our land. This is about climate justice for all communities. This is about an economy and political system that works for people, not big money. This is about a clean energy future for our kids and grandkids. If you agree, I’m asking you to do two things right now to keep our momentum going:
Give the Iowa Utilities Board a call at (515) 725-7347 to voice your disgust with their decision.
Chip in $10, $15 $25 or keep this fight going strong!
Stay tuned for our next steps to delay, and ultimately stop, the Bakken Pipeline.
