Bakken: This is what the Army Corps said

On Monday, Iowa CCI members went to the Army Corps of Engineers’ office in Omaha, Nebraska to make sure that Iowans have a voice in the permitting decision for the pipeline. This trip was in response to the Corps ignoring hundreds of attempts from CCI members to schedule a meeting in Iowa. During our conversation Monday, the Corps wanted to pass off responsibility by saying that they do not have authority in Iowa. But, we know that the Omaha office is coordinating the permitting process for the entire project, which means they have the ability to stop this pipeline. Our members held the Corps accountable, and they agreed to contact us by this Friday, May 13, to discuss next steps in planning a meeting. Despite what Dakota Access says, this project is not a done deal. Iowan indigenous groups, landowners, and every day folks are continuing to fight this pipeline every step of the way, and we aren’t going away. It’s going to be an exciting summer of resistance, so stay tuned for details about the meeting with Army Corps!
