Why we're completely opposed to the Bakken Pipeline

  • 570,000 barrels of highly toxic, highly flammable crude oil would cross the entire length of Iowa - 343 miles - every day.

  • Spills will happen - it's a matter of when, not if.

  • Oil spills cause serious, pervasive, long-lasting impacts on human health, our water and land, and on wildlife

  • The economic and jobs benefits are over-stated - we'd be better off investing in infrastructure that benefits Iowans

  • A Fortune 500 oil company in Texas, Energy Transfer Partners, would get rich by putting Iowans at risk

  • We should be doing everything we can to reduce global warming. Crude oil transport projects like this are just irrational given their contribution to climate change.

This is a very bad deal for everyday Iowans. Let's put people and planet first. Let's go all out to make sure this destructive proposal never happens.
