If you’re going to do one thing this year to stand up for the Iowa you want to see, our 2014 Statewide Convention is it. This is one of the best events we do all year and a great way to jump in and be a part of a statewide movement to put people first. Come connect with like-minded Iowans, get informed and inspired in our workshops, and recommit to changing the way politics is done in Iowa.
Meet our Powerful Line Up
Join us for a dynamic keynote address and four inspiring workshops on building independent political power and winning big on the issues that you care about most!
Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison is our keynote speaker! He is the first African-American to be elected to the House from Minnesota, the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, and the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He’s a leading people power voice, and is going to bring some inspiration to our Convention by talking about how progressives and legislative allies can work together to fight for justice and democracy.
BETSY HODGES, Mayor of Minneapolis
Betsy won TakeAction MN’s endorsement for mayor and beat out 34 other candidates by pushing a bold progressive platform that emphasized economic, educational and racial equality for all. Her campaign teaches us important lessons about what progressives need to do to win at the ballot box and set the stage for bigger change once in office.
Shane brings a punchy populist fight back spirit to CWA’s 700,000 members and their legislative work across the country. He focuses on movement building by connecting labor and community groups around the country with the goal of more bold, grassroots action and a stronger ‘people first’ political force at the ballot box.
A native of El Salvador, Sulma brings over 15 years of organizing experience and a sharp political and social justice analysis to the field. Under her leadership, a coalition of organizations has made national headlines for pushing back against Kansas Secretary of State Kris “King of Hate” Kobach’s racist, anti-immigrant agenda.
David, a former state legislator and long-time environmental justice fighter, has made Iowa Policy Project a key piece of Iowa’s progressive movement. Always a crowd favorite, he takes wonky policy issues and makes them exciting and understandable.
TakeAction is a progressive powerhouse. Under Dan’s leadership, they have helped elect a slate of progressive officials (including the MN Governor) and won big ticket policies like a minimum wage increase, healthcare for all and closing the racial jobs gap. Dan will share how CCI Action can be an even stronger political force in Iowa.
